Small And Simple

Small And Simple

By Bridger Tower

One of my favorite scriptures is Alma 37:6-7:

“Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise.

And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes, and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls.”

The whole concept of incremental improvement and tiny habits inspires me. I think because it seems attainable.

The Lord knows that He is working with humans, and he also knows that humans work by small and simple means. We don’t change habits overnight. Our wounds, mental and physical, don’t heal in an instant. Relationships are made in a single meeting. It is by small and simple steps and choices that we progress or digress.

This law of simplicity, so to speak, is beautiful. It “confounds the wise,” and through it, God makes us great. So let your thoughts be turned to God, that will lead your small choices to be good. These good small choices will turn into wonderful eternal things.
