Boozhoo, indinawemaaganidog! Aaniin! That is to say hello, all of my relatives! Welcome to another edition of An Irritable Métis. Today finds us on the opposite side of the seasonal turning of the year from Ziigwan, or Spring, where day and night are of equal length.1 Which means it is the Autumn Equinox, the beginning of Dagwaagin, or Fall. I couldn’t be happier because this is by far my favorite season; the elk bugling in the hinterlands2, the geese gathering in huge vees across the sky, the mist rising every morning from off the river … my entire being sighs with pleasure just typing those words. It has been beautiful here in Western Montana these last few days too, and today promises more of the same3. This is when I feel most connected to my poet self and I hope you are having a similar experience wherever you are.

This edition of the newsletter is largely a catch-up of everything I’ve been up to, and what is looming on the immediate horizon. Your continued and generous and essential support of this newsletter via paid subscriptions remains the bedrock supporting pretty much all of my efforts. As I scratch out notes and reminders that will emerge as a couple new books, I’m reminded that sooner than later I might need to take my foot off the gas and make time to actually write them.
