A blessing to help make space for imperfection

On wishing everything could be absolutely perfect

Blessed are you, who is striving for perfection. Who wants everything to be just so. Who fusses and sighs over the details that everyone else overlooks. Who wants things to be flawless, smooth, unblemished.

Blessed are you who curates and edits and tidies and polishes. Blessed are you who stays up into the night and wakes early in the morning to worry and work while others slumber, blissfully unaware.

May your efforts feel appreciated.

May you feel that others notice your hard work.

But may you also make space— just a little space— for imperfection.

For chips and cracks and discordant harmonies.

May you find yourself a moment— just a little moment— to step back and take stock. In that moment, may you find a quiet but insistent sense that everything doesn’t need to be perfect to be deeply good.

May you find yourself relaxing your tight grip.

May your shoulders drop down from up around your ears.

May you cautiously let others start to carry your burdens, too. And may you figure out which burdens you might just abandon altogether.
