“What a Friend we have in Jesus”
In the year 1855, in a town in Ireland, lay a woman terribly sick. She had a son living across the globe in Canada, his name was Joseph Scriven. Joseph was a writer and conveyed his feelings in the art of poetry. Thus, in the form of communication that he knew best, he wrote his mother a poem meant to comfort in her dire circumstance. This story may not sound familiar but the text of this poem will be recognized by millions of Christians around the world. Joseph wrote:
What a Friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
