Just a quick note to express some things I am thankful for in my life.
My family had Thanksgiving dinner early this afternoon, so that I could drive in for a shift in the ER. Honestly, that’s a perfect way for me to spend this holiday. I got to spend time with my spouse, my kids, and my parents (who are visiting from California), and now I get to do something for other people for the rest of the evening. I’m also fortunate to have superb, dedicated colleagues with me (not to mention some superdupersmart residents), which makes any shift easier and more interesting, no matter what may come our way.
I’m also grateful for the balance in my life that allows me to work enough clinically (a little more than half-time) so that I stay sharp and in touch with frontline medical care while also having time to write this newsletter. Okay, there’s other stuff in my “portfolio” too, including my work with MedPage Today, and some research—both of which keep me stimulated and active. So, while it adds up to a lot, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
But, if you noticed, you’re tucked right in there! Inside Medicine is one of the most meaningful things I do in my life. If you weren’t here, this simply wouldn’t work. So, I am so thankful for you!
Below, you’ll find some recent Q&As I hosted on Substack Live. I can’t tell you how much I learned from Dr. Gawande, Dr. Rasmussen, and Dr. Gounder—and know you’ll agree.
Above all, I hope you have a great and safe holiday. Back with more soon!
—Jeremy
