This is Jack’s degrowth sphere, a newsletter about how degrowth can save the world.

I am a MA Degrowth: Ecology, Economics and Policy student at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. This pioneering online masters is the first of its kind and is one of many steps made by the amazing Research & Degrowth collective to stimulate discussion about what an equitable downscaling of consumption would look like, so we all can live meaningful and prosperous existences within safe planetary boundaries.

I have become aware of the deficit of research and discussion regarding degrowth and it’s relationship to violence. My background in international relations has compelled me to research what parameters we may employ to theorise violence and extra-communal relations in a political economy of degrowth.

This blog is a place to discuss and present ideas that come up in our collective learning process on the masters, literature, research and anything else that concerns the liberation of human and non-humankind. I’ll be producing an introduction to degrowth for those who I’m yet to evangelise to. I’ll also post my poetry here if you fancy labouring through rip-offs of Kerouac.
